Celebrating mothers |
When we were wondering how we could get involved with the Codsall Arts Festival, we noticed that the first weekend included Mothering Sunday - and our imaginations were stimulated by Mike Davies’ wonderful wood carvings of Mary, all around us as we met. And so we came up with an exhibition Celebrating Mothers in different ways.
Over
the weekend of 12th & 13th March, St. Nicholas Church will host the exhibition,
which will include the carvings, photographs, paintings, flower arrangements and
pictures by children at our local schools. There will be a place to put our own
prayer of thanksgiving for our mother or those who have cared for us.
The church will be open from 10am - 4pm on Saturday 13th March, and from 12.30am - 4pm on the Sunday 14th March (after our morning Mothering Sunday services). Then we’re having a Celebration of Mothers, at 6.30pm, with local schoolchildren singing and playing instruments, songs from Voices in Harmony and readings about mothers - as well as a hymn or two.
I hope you will be able to come and join us in this rich celebration of a mother’s love. It’s very appropriate that this weekend comes towards the end of Lent, as we look towards the ‘passion’ of Jesus - the expression of his self-giving love in the days that lead up to Good Friday.
As part of our Lenten journey, alongside our Lent Meetings, we will again have short services on Wednesday evenings in March:
Weds 3rd March 7pm Compline
Weds 10th March 7pm Compline
Weds 17th March 7pm Taizé Service
Weds 24th March 7pm Compline
Weds 31st March 7pm Taizé Service
Each will last 15 - 20 minutes: a little space to be quiet and relax in God’s love. Then, on 28th March we begin our Holy Week journey - you will see details of the services later in the magazine. Come and join the journey, and discover again the depth of God’s love for you.
